I’m going to share a story with you that has been in our family and in my group of friends that I grew up with playing basketball.
This is a lesson that we regularly all talk about when we are together. It came up at a recent wedding and I almost swapped my reading out for the story about the lion and the gazelle but I chose not to.
I think I made the wrong decision. ( I really regret not doing it)
This story was told to use when we first started going to Dixie Basketball Camp.
I’ve talked about this before when I wrote “It’s not about taking out the trash”.
The Lion and the Gazelle
Every morning in Africa a lion wakes up.
He knows that he must run faster than the slowest gazelle or he will starve to death
Every morning in Africa a Gazelle wakes up.
He knows that he must run faster than the fastest Lion or he will be eaten.
It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle
When the sun comes up, you better be running
I love this story because nobody is immune to the message.
It doesn’t matter if you are happy with your life or whether you hate it.
The message is the same.
We have to work to keep what we have.
And we have to work to get what we want
I’ve been both at different points in my life.
I’ve also been both simultaneously depending on what aspect of my life we are talking about.
There is beauty in simplicity.
So regardless of what the scenario is, the answer is still the same.
Get up, and start running.
The only questions is..
Are you a Lion or a Gazelle???
